The New Orleans Hornets have shown a willingness to entertain trade talks for Eric Gordon.
According to a rival executive, USA Today's Sam Amick reports Hornets GM Dell Demps is not actively shopping the shooting guard who was a key piece in the Chris Paul trade to the L.A. Clippers. But New Orleans is keeping an open mind when it comes to potential overtures from other teams.
Gordon's agent, Rob Pelinka, has been more than open to the idea of a trade for his client, who signed an offer sheet with the Phoenix Suns last summer. When the Hornets matched, Gordon showed dismay about the situation.
"You never know what could happen," Gordon said by phone to Amick when asked if he now sees New Orleans as the long-term spot for him. "The main thing right now is to really focus on this team. After thinking about my injuries and everything, everything is year by year with me. I have to focus on this year. I don't know what's going to happen. You never know what's going to happen."
Gordon said his "heart" was in Phoenix after signing the offer sheet and feeling slighted by the Hornets refusal to offer him a max deal. Now the potential All-Star is back playing but the long-term stability of the relationship between player and team in this case still looks tenuous at best.
