Louisiana College Senior Outfielder Cole Bagbey earns two weekly honors

Bagbey named ASC East Hitter of the Week, member of D3baseball.com Team of the Week

PINEVILLE, LA - Cole Bagbey's final regular season home series at Louisiana College turned into his best one of his career, as the senior outfielder from Monroe, LA has been named the ASC East Hitter of the Week as well as a member of the D3baseball.com Team of the Week.

This is the fourth time that a Wildcat has been named ASC East Hitter of the Week in 2013, joining Mark Riendeau and Kyle Feazell, who won the award the previous two week.

Bagbey also joins Riendeau as the pair have both been named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week in 2013.

HITTER OF THE WEEK

Ely Gallego, 1B, Fr., Sul Ross State

Sul Ross State freshman first baseman Ely Gallego (Alpine, Texas / Cisco JC) went 4-for-9 with a home run, three doubles and three RBIs to help fuel a 2-1 division series win over Schreiner. Gallego, who takes the division's top weekly hitting award for the second time this season, also scored four runs and walked once. In the first game of the series, a 20-8 win, Gallego went 3-for-5 with a homer and two doubles.

CO-PITCHERS OF THE WEEK

Corey Howie, Jr., RHP, Howard Payne

Howard Payne junior right-hander Corey Howie (Eastland, Texas / EHS) tossed a five-hit shutout with eight strikeouts to defeat Hardin-Simmons in a 1-0 division game. Howie, who takes the West's top weekly pitching award for a second time this season, walked just one batter over the nine-inning series opener.

Ryan Ullmann, RHP, Sr., Concordia Texas

Concordia Texas senior right-hander Ryan Ullmann (Bryan, Texas / Temple College) hurled a six-hit shutout with seven strikeouts and no walks to beat Texas Lutheran in a 1-0 game that tied the three-game series up. Ullmann, who takes the division's top weekly pitching award for a third time this season, did not issue an extra-base hit.

HITTER OF THE WEEK

Cole Bagbey, OF, Sr., Louisiana College

Louisiana College senior outfielder Cole Bagbey (Monroe, La. / Sterlington HS) went 7-for-14 with two home runs – the first of his career – two doubles and five RBIs to fuel a 2-1 division series win over nationally-ranked Texas-Tyler. Bagbey also scored three runs and walked once. He hit a homer in each game of the doubleheader to give the Wildcats a pair of wins that day and their first series victory over the Patriots since 2005.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Austin Trehern, RHP, Sr., Mississippi College

Mississippi College senior right-hander Austin Trehern (Grand Bay, Ala. / Faulkner State CC) tossed a complete-game shutout with four strikeouts and no walks to earn a division win over Ozarks in the opener of a three-game series. Trehen scattered nine hits over the nine innings. He didn't surrender a hit until the fifth innings.

HITTERS: LeToureau 1B Garrett Methvin went 6-for-15 with a home run and nine RBIs over a 4-1 week. . . . Mississippi College INF Brett Hightower went 8-for-13 with three RBIs over a 2-1 weekend. . . .Ozarks OF Freddy Prince had six hits over four games. . . .Texas-Dallas OF Tanner Gandy went 4-for-10 with two RBIs over a 2-1 weekend. . . . . Hardin-Simmons RHP James Simmonstossed a three-hit shutout with nine strikeouts over seven complete innings in a 5-0 win over Howard Payne. . . . Sul Ross State RHP Dakota Dill allowed just two runs and struck out eight over seven complete innings to beat Schreiner. . . . Texas Lutheran RHP Kellen McGriff tossed six shutout innings and allowed just three hits to win the West Division-clinching game against Concordia Texas. . . .
