Former O.P. Walker standout Tyrone Duplessis, a running back at Louisiana Tech University for the last three years, died Thursday morning in his off-campus apartment, the university confirmed. He was 22.

The schools reported Thursday that the cause of death is currently unknown at this time.

Duplessis was a three-time all-district selection for Coach Skip Lamothe at O.P. Walker. He also earned all-state honors as a junior, when he rushed for 2,104 yards and 26 touchdowns.

At Louisiana Tech, Duplessis made an immediate impact as a freshman in 2009, rushing for 277 yards. He led the Bulldogs with 65 yards rushing on 17 carries in a 24-16 loss to LSU in Baton Rouge.

He redshirted in 2010 and played sparingly only late in the 2011 season, posting six of his seven carries in Tech's regular season finale against New Mexico State.
