LA Tech Tennis Signs Two Highly Touted International Netters

RUSTON – Louisiana Tech head coach Freddy Gomez announced Thursday the signing of two international standouts to the 2013 tennis recruiting class.

Marta Sramkova from Bratislava, Slovakia and Jazmin Britos from Villarrica, Paraguay are both highly touted players who make up the No. 14 mid-major class in the country according to the Tennis Recruiting Network.

The ranking is third best among all Conference USA members behind only Marshall and UAB.

"We are very excited about this year's incoming class," said Gomez. "Both of these players bring a lot of experience and competitiveness to our team. This combo adds solid depth to our lineup and we look forward to seeing them make an immediate impact on our season right away."

Sramkova brings an impressive resume to Ruston as she has a career high junior ITF ranking of 462 and has been ranked in the top three in every age category in Slovakia since 2009.

"Marta has been a top junior in her country and has faced many tough players on the European circuit, including multiple wins against high ranked WTA players," said Gomez.

She was recently a finalist in singles and doubles in the open division of the 2013 Regional Indoor Championships as well as a singles finalist and doubles semifinalist in the open division at the 2013 Slovak Republic Indoor Championships.

Playing in the U18 category in 2012, Sramkova was a singles semifinalist in the Slovak Republic Indoor Championships and the Slovak Championships. In doubles, she was a runner-up in the Slovak Championships.

In 2011, she participated in the Winter Cup U16 to go along with being a semifinalist at the ITF Zilina Junior Open U18 and a finalist of the Europe Tennis Center Cup U18.

In 2010, Sramkova's tennis team placed first at the Slovak Championships and was a winner of the ZLTC Cup U16 where she defeated Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic in the finals who is currently ranked No. 328 in the world by the WTA.

Britos joins Sramkova as the second Lady Techster that rounds out what is arguably the best recruiting class in LA Tech history.

"Jazmin has plenty of experience in ITF/WTA tournaments around South America, including strong results in doubles," said Gomez. "She is also very coachable and hard-working."

Britos has a career high junior ITF ranking of 347 and a career high WTA ranking of 962 in singles and 642 in doubles.

Her accolades include two doubles championships at the 2012 Cochabamba in Bolivia and the 2011 Goiania in Brazil. She was also a quarterfinalist in singles at the 2012 ITF Club Del Comercio and 2011 Copa "Ciudad del Illimani".

In 2008, Britos was a winner at the 2008 Paraguay Junior Open followed by a runner-up effort in 2009 at the same event.

Both players will join the team in time for the fall season.
