FOOTBALL: Nathan Stanley, Devan Walker Ink NFL Free Agent Contracts

HAMMOND – Former Southeastern Louisiana University football standouts Nathan Stanley and Devan Walker each signed respective free agent deals on Saturday as the 2013 NFL Draft concluded its annual three-day event.

Stanley, who played his final two seasons at Southeastern after transferring from Ole Miss, signed with the defending Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens. The 6-foot-5 quarterback threw for 1,952 yards – the eighth-highest single-season total in school history – while throwing for nine touchdowns in 2012.

The Tahlequah, Okla., native, who played in the Casino del Sol All-Star Game and East-West Shrine Game, finished his two-year career sixth in school history in passing yards (2,238), sixth in completions (205) and seventh in attempts (385).

Walker, a Baton Rouge native and former Catholic High product, signed a free agent contract with the San Diego Chargers. After playing his first three seasons at defensive end, Walker was moved to linebacker in 2012 and was named All-Southland Conference after recording 46 tackles with a team-high 12 stops for loss and seven sacks.

Walker, who participated in the Texas vs. the Nation All-Star Game, recorded 168 tackles in his career and finished third on the school's all-time list for tackles for loss (37.5) and sacks (15).

The signings of Stanley and Walker increased Southeastern number of NFL free agents since the school resumed football in 2003 to 11 and came one day after Robert Alford was selected in the second round (No. 60 overall) by the Atlanta Falcons and becoming the second-highest draft pick in school history behind linebacker Calvin Favron who was the 46th overall pick in 1979 by the St. Louis Cardinals.
