CLEVELAND, Ohio – Southeastern Louisiana University's Todd Washington became the second Lion defensive back in as many seasons to earn preseason all-America honors when he was named Tuesday to Phil Steele's FCS Preseason All-American Team.
Washington, a senior from Lutcher, was named to the fourth team and was one of five Southland Conference players named to the squad. The selection of Washington marked the second consecutive year a Southeastern defensive back was named to the squad after former Lion Robert Alford was a fourth-team selection.
The senior earned honorable mention All-Southland Conference honors in 2011 after starting 10 games at cornerback and recording 27 tackles, an interception and a team-high nine pass breakups.
He finished fifth in the Southland Conference in passes defended and capped off the season with an interception and four tackles in a victory at Nicholls State.

Washington was one of six Southeastern players named to the Preseason All-Southland Conference squad by the publication, joining first-team members Gasten Gabriel (offensive line) and Xavier Roberson (kick returner) along with second-team picks Kaleb Muse (linebacker), Cqulin Hubert (linebacker) and defensive back Tyler Stoddard.
