LSU-Kentucky Likely Headed For Morning Kickoff At Tiger Stadium

Tiger StadiumTiger StadiumThe Southeastern Conference announced television and kickoff details for several early-season games Thursday, and while not much news directly affected LSU, one item will have a trickle-down effect on the Tigers’ schedule.

CBS has chosen Oct. 1 as its primary doubleheader weekend, with game telecasts scheduled for 2:30 and 7 p.m. Central time. CBS’ most likely choices are Alabama at Florida and Auburn at South Carolina.

With two exclusive “windows” that day, all SEC home games not chosen by CBS will have to kick off prior to 11:30 a.m., including the LSU-Kentucky game at Tiger Stadium.

The last LSU home game scheduled to kick off that early was in 2006 against Mississippi State. The 2008 season opener against Appalachian State was moved up to a 10 a.m. kickoff because of Hurricane Gustav.

Earlier Thursday, the league and ESPN announced that LSU’s game at Mississippi State on Thursday, Sept. 15, will kick off at 7 p.m.

All 12 LSU games will be televised. Home and conference games are guaranteed to be televised by the SEC’s contracts with CBS and ESPN, and the Tigers’ two non-conference games away from home – Sept. 3 against Oregon at Cowboys Stadium (ABC) and Sept. 24 at West Virginia (ESPN network to be determined) – already have been selected for TV.
