LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri lost one of the top signees in his most recent class in Nick Longhi. But another quality arm may be on the way.
Junior college pitcher Kyle Bouman is expected to join the Tiger roster when school starts in August.
Longhi was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 30th round in the June amateur draft and signed for far above slot money. Bouman helps replace the two-way standout's potential as a left-handed pitching option.
The 6-feet tall Bouman was 5-3 with a 1.71 ERA for Jefferson College in Missouri in 2013. Bouman struck out 53 hitters in 58 inning pitched while walking just eight.
Pitching for the Lakeshore Chinooks of the Northwoods Collegiate League. Bouman sports a 4-0 record while tossing 42 2/3 innings and striking out 32 hitters this summer. He has walked just 12 batters and has allowed his opponents a .173 average. Northwoods is one of the top wooden bat collegiate leagues outside of the Cape Cod League.
