AREA PREP BASKETBALL REPORT FOR TUESDAY, DECEMBER 10
In boys prep basketball action, De La Salle pulled away in the second half to win 67-50 at Pope John Paul II in Slidell Monday evening.
After trailing 31-28 at halftime, the Cavaliers exploded in the third quarter, outscoring the Jaguars 19-3 to break the game open.
Luke Kelly was outstanding, pumping in 26 points for the Cavaliers. Ronnie Briggs added 14 and Troy Nisby chipped in with 11 points.
With the win, De La Salle moved to 4-3 on the season. The Cavaliers will next play at Riverdale on December 17 at 5 p.m. Pope John Paul fell to 1-6 with the loss. The Jaguars are back in action tonight at 7 p.m. at Pearl River.
In girls action, Thomas Jefferson pulled away in the second half to down Academy of Our Lady 48-34.
After leading by just one point at halftime (17-16), the Jaguars took control in the second half, outscoring AOL 17-8 in the third quarter to create distance. Kaitlyn Isidore led the way with 20 points while Gabby Gafton added seven points. Ashley Walker topped the Penguins with 19 points.
With the win, Thomas Jefferson improved to 6-6. The Jaguars return to action Wednesday at De La Salle at 6 p.m. The Penguins fell to 4-7 with the loss and will next host Covenant Christian Thursday at 5 p.m.
