SECOND PATRIOT OF 2013 CLASS PLEDGES TO GREENIES:
For Tulane, two John Curtis Patriots are better than one.
John Curtis defensive back Richard Allen has verbally committed to Tulane. the 5'10, 170-pound Allen is an honor student with a 4.0 GPA and a 25 score on his ACT.
Allen chose Tulane over McNeese State. He joins Curtis teammate Brandon Godfrey as part of the Tulane recruiting class of 2013 for Curtis Johnson.
Curtis head coach J.T. Curtis is very high on Allen and high on his college decision.
"It was a good choice for Allen," said J.T. Curtis. "He has been an excellent student all of his life and he wanted to go to a school that was academically challenging to him and Tulane fits well. He is excited with their new coaching staff. He went to their camp and ran in the low 4.4 range. He gave it time and thought about it and made a good decision. He wanted to play close to home. I believe he can help Tulane."
Allen runs consistently in the 4.4 to 4.45 range in the 40-yard dash.
"It is close to home, close to where I live," said Allen. "I plan on majoring in sports medicine and they have a very good sports medicine program. It seemed like a perfect fit for more. Coach Rollins (Jason) did a very good job recruiting me. I feel great about Coach Johnson. I went to their camp and I enjoyed being around him. He is a real cool guy. Brandon talked with me about it and he was very high on Tulane. It will be nice to be there with him.
Allen believes in his ability to compete at the next level.
"I feel my speed is good, I'm very fast," said Allen. "I believe I can thrive in man-to-man coverage. I have good technique and ball skills. I look forward to having a chance to contribute early in my career at Tulane."
Former Curtis defensive back Alex Lauricella, now a senior, is at Tulane as well. Former Patriot Mike Henry is a junior center for the Green Wave. "I should feel right at home," said Allen.
Allen is Tulane's 17th commitment for the class of 2013. 14 of the 17 are from Louisiana with 12 from the extended greater New Orleans area.
