Volleyball: Newman, Chapelle, Curtis among Monday's winners

NEWMAN BEATS NEIGHBOR; CHAPELLE CONTINUES WIN STREAK, CURTIS REBOUNDS 

In an uptown neighborhood battle, Newman handled De La Salle 25-14, 25-21, 25-15 at Newman Monday.

Kiley Ezzell had 23 assists while Katherine Boyland had 13 digs and 10 kills to lead the Greenies. Jessica Porter led the Cavaliers with eight kills.

With the win, Newman improved to 7-2 while De La Salle dropped to 0-4 with the loss. Both teams are back in action Tuesday. The Cavaliers host Hahnville at 4 p.m. while the Greenies host Episcopal at 6:30 p.m.

Make it 14 straight wins for Chapelle. The Chipmunks handled Landry/Walker 25-8, 25-8, 25-15 at Chapelle Monday.

Mallory Knudsen led the way with 31 assists and three aces while Natalie Comardelle knocked down 10 kills for the Chipmunks. Ariane Johnson had six kills and five digs for the Charging Buccaneers.

After losing its first match of the season in five sets to Country Day, Chapelle has now won 14 matches in a row to improve to 14-1. Chapelle will host St. Scholastica Tuesday at 5 p.m. Landry/Walker fell to 1-11 with the loss and will play at Thomas Jefferson Tuesday at 4 p.m.

After losing its first match of the year to Chapelle in the title match of the H.L. Bourgeois Tournament, John Curtis rebounded with a solid 25-13, 25-19, 25-12 victory over Lusher.

Reaghan Fabacher had 29 assists and five aces to lead the way while Tatiana Bell added eight kills and five aces for the Patriots. Elise Moore led the Lions with 16 digs.

Lusher fell to 4-5 with the loss. The Lions host Edna Karr Tuesday at 4 p.m. while the Patriots, now 9-1, return to action Wednesday at Chalmette at 4 p.m.
