Team Synopsis:
This is a hungry team. After last year's first losing season under Jay Roth and the first for Rummel since 1994, Rummel appears poised to return to winning ways and a playoff berth. Damian Williams figures to be the best quarterback in 9-5A. He has started since his freshman year, is big and runs hard, and has a good arm. J.J. Brown is quick and experienced in the backfield. Dominick Bilich anchors the offensive line. He is a Division 1 prospect. Cyril Grayson moves from safety to receiver full-time and has outstanding speed. Running back Terrance Jones moves to linebacker to solidify a defense that struggled at that position a year ago. He will still see some time at running back. The defensive line has experience with Scott Migliore and Branagh Cohen while Michael Kennedy is talented young linebacker. How much the defense improves over an uncharacteristic poor season will determine how far Rummel goes though a return to the playoffs is likely.

FACILITY, STAFF HAVE MANY PLUSES:Three years is a very good sampling. Based on the execution and results of the 5A state baseball tournament and its current run at Turchin Stadium, it should be equivalent to the appetizer at a five-star restaurant. With a year remaining on the current deal with Tulane to host the event, extending the deal for a second time should be a virtual no-brainer for the LHSAA.Tulane won out on its bid to host the event for 2010 and 2011. MR. PREP ON NEVER GIVING UP, BASEBALL FINALS HOPEFULS:FEATS OF DETERMINATIONArchbishop Rummel senior Cyril Grayson and the Jesuit baseball team have at least one thing in common: They don't accept defeat very well.Grayson, who signed a track and field scholarship with LSU in March, won two gold medals at last week's LHSAA State Track and Field Championships at Bernie Moore Stadium, while Tulane scored two runs late in a regional round game to defeat Ruston, 2-1. LSU SIGNEE WASN'T ALWAYS A SURE THING:By his own admission, he once was a non-descript, angular 6-foot-2 second baseman, lacking physical strength and only moderately motivated – a player who presented little threat at home plate, an athlete in need of a compass. Then Mitch Sewald decided he would prefer positioning himself on the dirt of t...
