NFL Officials Debacle: It is time to replace the replacements

Extra Points: NFL steals one for Seattle

Because of what happened at the end of the Monday Night football game between the Green Bay Packers and Seahawks at Seattle, I could not sleep and feel very upset on several fronts so please bear with me.

I love the NFL. I loathe what is going on at this time.

The replacement officials in Green Bay at Seattle were simply and totally out of place. Their inexperience on the pro level more than showed itself. The Packers more than had an interception in the final seconds and should have won the game. Instead, Green Bay "lost" to the Seahawks, 14-12.

When officials can't even get a call right using replay then something is terribly wrong. In my opinion this is the lowest quality officiating since the 1920s-1940s when the NFL used members of the home team's local media as game day officials.

Furthermore, Seattle wide receiver Golden Tate truly did a disservice from a moral standpoint when in a post-game interview with Lisa Salters of ESPN said that this one was for the Almighty first, then his team but shortly after that statement flatly denied pushing off a defender before going for the ball. If he wouldn't have used the Almighty's name, I would not be so upset with him. It shows an incredible lack of respect for those who truly believe and for that matter a lack of respect for his own self.

The officials should have caught his push-off because back in September 2001, Saints wide receiver Willie Jackson was properly flagged for offensive pass interference in the end zone on the last play of a game at the Giants, which wound up costing the Saints a possible win.

In addition, even though these officials are from the Division II college ranks, I cannot believe they do not understand the basis of simultaneous possession. That's what even more bizarre on top of it all.

Commissioner Roger Goodell is willing to let the quality "of the shield" he claims to protect turn into a coat of tarnish and it needs to stop immediately. Enough is enough, at this rate Goodell will end up turning the NFL into the sports equivalent of Enron. How many more blown calls must we endure? It is time to replace the replacements!
