The New Orleans Saints' bounty scandal was voted the No. 3 sports story of 2012 in a vote conducted by The Associated Press.
The off-field issues at Penn State, including the conviction of former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky and the stiff sanctions handed down by the NCAA, was voted the top story for the second consecutive year, with the Lance Armstrong saga coming in second.
Rounding out the top 10 were NFL concussions, the London Olympics, the implementation of a college football playoff, the NFL's early-season use of replacement officials, the New York Giants' win in Super Bowl XLVI, the retirement of Tennessee women's basketball coach Pat Summitt and the resurgence of New Orleans native Peyton Manning with the Denver Broncos.
