Call it calm before the storm.
At the 22nd Annual Saints Hall of Fame Celebrity Golf Classic at Chateau Golf and Country Club in Kenner Monday, the sun was shining and so were New Orleans Saints players, coaches and executives, enjoying themselves before getting to work Tuesday with the opening day of offseason training activities (OTA's) for the 2013 Saints.
Capturing first place in the tournament in the scratch category (low gross) was the team anchored by Saints Executive Vice President Mickey Loomis, who played with the foursome of Scott Korndorffer of Chateau Cafe', Rick Hart, Desi Vega and Robbie Hazard, who finished with a total of 53 in the scramble, best-ball format.
Winning the first place prize for low net (handicap) was a team anchored by New Orleans Saints kicker Garrett Hartley, who teamed with Joe Farruggio, Justin Hill, Billy Deville and Bobby Leonard of Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Biloxi, who finished with a total of 48.
The second-place low net team was paced by Saints Hall of Fame inductee Eric Martin. The former superb Saints wide receiver partnered with the Baker Hughes team consisting of Greg Reich, Stacy Martin, Bill Bomar and Daryl Richard for a 51 total.
Finishing in third-place in the low net competition was the team anchored by Saints defensive end Tyrunn Walker, who was joined by Tony Morgan, Darren Martin, Scott Nelson and Ben Landry.
Along with Loomis, Hartley, Martin and Walker, head coach Sean Payton led a force of current and former New Orleans Saints players participating in the annual event which raises money for the non-profit Saints Hall of Fame Museum, located at Gate B on the Plaza Level of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
Other current players participating included Mark Ingram, Roman Harper, Ben Grubbs, Zach Strief, Thomas Morstead, Justin Drescher, Tom Johnson, Wesley McGriff, Brent Leonhard and Will Smith.
Among Saints alumni playing were Saints Hall of Fame inductees Martin, Jim Dombrowski, Stan Brock, Deuce McAllister and Jim Wilks.
Other former players on hand were Mike Strachan, Jack Holmes, Fred McAfee, Michael Lewis, Mel Mitchell, Emmanuel Zanders, John Tice and Tyrone Hughes.
The sellout event included 168 golfers, most of whom paid to play with a celebrity from the Saints organization.
The event capped a two-day celebration of the Saints Hall of Fame which included the 3rd Annual Fox 8 Saints Hall of Fame Auction Sunday night which raised $26,750 for the museum.
