The New Orleans Saints acted quickly to find veteran help after a serious injury.
Outside linebacker Parys Haralson has been traded by the San Francisco 49ers to the Saints, according to the San Jose Mercury News.
Haralson (6'1, 253) is expected to play significant snaps at the outside linebacker spot. The move comes the same day it was learned that Will Smith suffered a season-ending injury on Saturday.
The eight-year veteran was reportedly being shopped for an late round draft pick after the Niners determined he was surplus at a position that happened to be one of great need in New Orleans.
A career-long San Francisco player since the 49ers chose him in the 5th round of the 2006 NFL draft out of Tennessee, the 29-year-old Haralson started all 16 games in 2011 but missed the entire 2012 season due to a torn triceps tendon.
Haralson played in 86 games between 2006-2011 for San Francisco, starting 68. He recorded 21.5 sacks with 145 tackles, recovered four fumbles and forced three fumbles during that time. Haralson had a career high of eight sacks in 2008.
