Pleasant Grove, Ala., native receives honor for fifth time this season
NEW ORLEANS – Ricky Tarrant, a guard for the Tulane men's basketball team, was named the Conference USA Freshman of the Week for the third straight week, it was announced by the conference office on Monday.
The weekly awards are voted on by a media panel representing the 12 member schools.
Tarrant guided Tulane to a conference split during the week by leading the Green Wave with 21 points in the 75-54 victory over Houston at home on Saturday. The freshman also posted a team-high 11 points in the loss at Marshall on Wednesday.
In the win over Houston, Tarrant tossed in 13 of his 21 points in the opening half, including knocking down three straight 3-pointers during a four minute stretch late in the half to build Tulane's lead to 17. He also led the Green Wave with five of the team's 16 steals against the Cougars.
The Pleasant Grove, Ala., native has now scored in double figures in 10-straight games and been Tulane's leading scorer in each of the past eight contests. He is averaging a league-best 17.9 points per game in conference games.
This is his third straight C-USA Freshman of the Week recognition and his fifth honor this season.
Tarrant and the Green Wave travel to UTEP on Saturday for the squad lone game of the week. Tip off at the Don Haskins Center is slated for 8 p.m. CT.
