The seven Catholic, basketball members of the Big East Conference have decided to announce their departure from the league, according to two people with knowledge of the discussions. The two spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity because the talks were supposed to remain confidential.
Whether the schools decide to use their majority voting power to dissolve the league ot not remains to be seen.
None of this comes as a shock to Green Wave fans aware of the grumblings in recent days by the basketball bunch. Prominent among the complaints was direct shots at Tulane's basketball program by Marquette AD Larry Williams.
Tulane recently announced that it will leave Conference-USA to join the Big East. With the league now potentially in limbo or set to be blown apart completely, all schools involved with the Big East will be facing uncertainty and important decisions soon.
