Former Tulane right-hander Preston Claiborne received his first promotion to the major leagues Thursday night when he was recalled by the New York Yankees.
Claiborne, 25, has steadily progressed through the Yankees' minor-league system. He reached Class AAA Scranton-Wilkes Barre midway through the 2012 season and began this year at S-WB, where had a 3.48 ERA and three saves in 10 appearances this season.
"Thank you for all the love everybody," Claiborne said Thursday night on his Twitter account. "Words can't describe it."
Claiborne pitched at Tulane from 2007-10. The Texas native pitched in 84 games with the Green Wave, all in relief.
Claiborne replaces Joba Chamberlain on the Yankees' 25-man roster. Chamberlain was placed on the 15-day disabled list earlier Thursday with a strained right oblique.
