Tulane may be without its All-American kicker when it travels to Syracuse on Saturday.
Cairo Santos, the reigning Lou Groza Award winner who has made 25 consecutive field goals, is back in Brazil attending the funeral of his father, who was killed in an air crash on Sunday.
Tulane coach Curtis Johnson made the announcement at his weekly news conference on Tuesday.
Santos' father, also named Cairo, was a stunt pilot.
If Santos is not back in the United States in time for Saturday's game, sophomore Steven Broccoli would handle kicking duties.
