NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans athletic department announced on Monday afternoon the resignation of head track and field/cross country coach Ty Sevin to accept a position on the track & field staff at the University of Texas.
Sevin departs the program after completing a single season on the Lakefront.
"We appreciate Ty's contributions to the New Orleans Track & Field program and our athletics department," said Director of Athletics Derek Morel. "He assumed leadership of a program which was non-existent one year ago and put the building blocks in place for a successful future."
The UNO track and field/cross country program will begin its first season as Southland Conference members during the 2013-14 academic year.
The University reinstated men's and women's indoor and outdoor track and field in 2012, one year after the institution restarted its men's and women's cross country program. All six programs were cut in 2006 following the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and brought back to campus over the last two years as UNO solidified its NCAA Division I status.
UNO will conduct a national search to find a new head track and field/cross country coach to lead the Privateers into the Southland Conference.
